Kitchen Tool Helps Cut the Added Fat and Calories

Portion control with fat can be an important part of weight management since fat is very high in calories.  For example, a teaspoon of oil or a teaspoon of butter is approximately 50 calories.  While olive oil, canola oil and peanut oil are much better for heart health then butter is, they are just as high in calories.

One cooking tool that I find to be very helpful with portion control is the Misto Olive Oil Sprayer.  It is a refillable canister that sprays the oil similar to Pam, but it is non-aerosol and there are no chemicals or propellants.  I like it for the following reasons:

  • As stated above, it helps with portion control and calorie control
  • It’s all natural
  • It ends up saving money because your using less oil and it’s refillable so you don’t need to keep buying bottles of cooking sprays (this also makes it better for the environment)
  • It’s better for your non-stick pans.  Most products that you spray contain soy lecithin which can lead to a build-up in pans and ruin the non-stick coating over time.

You can purchase the product online or at most stores that contain kitchen products like Bed Bath and Beyond, Macy’s, etc.  For more information on the Misto, click here.
